Counselling for men: About You
RESTORING
MENTAL HEALTH
If the weight of the world is on your shoulders and you don't have the energy to laugh, it's time talk.
Counselling for men: About you
Restoring mental health through emotions or events
There are two ways to talk about mental health:
a) What are you feeling? This helps people explain the feelings and emotions they are experiencing and that are hurting them.
b) What's going on? Asking a man talk about what he is feeling and we hit alien territory, men are just not trained to talk about that 'stuff', instead we focus on what is going on - the practical stuff, at least to start with.

Emotions and Feelings
Mental health terms are used in everyday language but affect each person differently. Before discussing emotional issues, I will ask you what you mean by the term. Labels can be helpful, but we will work together to understand what they mean to you and how they impact your life.
For instance, insomnia is a label that refers to the inability to fall asleep, but we will not only focus on that. We will ask other vital questions, such as who, what, when, where, and how. These objective questions will help us find a solution.

Events and circumstances
Counselling is about understanding feelings; by focusing on our emotions and thoughts, we are able to understand what actions are needed to help us enjoy our lives.
Men struggle to express their emotions but can talk about concrete things like thoughts and events. As a solution-focused counsellor, I prioritize working with these practical issues over feelings; the feelings will emerge when needed – and you will find the right words.
