How are you feeling?

Often men come to counselling because of how they are feeling. Their emotions may be all over the place, feeling awful or angry and frustrated. Whatever the emotion, online counselling provides a way for us to understand what is happening and do something about it.

Emotions tell us that something is wrong

Counselling is about understanding feelings; by focusing on our emotions and thoughts, we realise what actions are needed to help us enjoy our lives.

Online grounded counselling for men is about understanding feelings; by focusing on our emotions and thoughts, we realise what actions are needed to help us enjoy our lives.

Some mental health issues and terms have passed into our everyday language. For example, look at the physical and psychological symptoms used to diagnose depression. However, depression affects everyone in different ways; that’s why I will always ask what you mean.

Whether it is a GP’s diagnosis or a self-diagnosis from Google, labels can be helpful as a starting point for our discussions. We will work together to go beyond the labels. We will work out what the label means to you and how that label affects you and those you care about.

However, we will get nowhere in counselling if we only focus on labels. Nor will we get very far if we keep asking ‘why?’ if we do, we keep going around increasingly frustrating circles. Instead, I work with you to understand the other key questions: who, what, when, where and how; objective questions give us something to work with.

Men don't have the words!

Emotions count - but they are not everything!

In a recent study, men identified, on average, 7 different emotions, which we might think is good until we realise the average number of emotions the women in the same study identified was nearly 30!
